Incorporated on 18 June 2021 as a private company limited by shares and wholly owned by the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. Launched on the 22th July 2022 by the Chief Commissioner Mr. Johnson Roussety, GOSK who is also responsible for the Commission for Water Resources. The mission of RPUC is to improve the production, storage, treatment and distribution of water to all residents of Rodrigues. RPUC is managed by a Board of Director with;
Mr. Claude WONG SO, OSK, former Island Commissioner and Island Chief Executive of RRA as chairman and the following directors:

1. Mrs Zeenat Guness Goolbar , Permanent Secretary of the ministry of Energy and Public Utilities.
2. Mrs. Bimla Gunnuck Jeetun, Assistant Permanent secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity Division.
3. Mr. Jean Carlo Botsar - Departmental Head, Commission for Water Resources.
4. Mr. Pritam Kumar Benee - Lead Analysis, Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.
5. Mr. Kevin Waterstone , CEB Management (Rodrigues).
6. Mr. Antonio Leong Long - Representative of Consumers.
7. Mr. Joseph Robertson , Representative of Civil Society.
8. Representative of Central Water Authority - Now Vacant.

RPUC works toward empowerment of Rodriguans and has 13 University graduates in employment ; 4 administration cadre and 9 Trainee Engineer who are participating in the Trainee Engineer Scheme financed by the Ministry of Labour, Human Resources Development if training and the Rodrigues Regional Assembly / RPUC. RPUC has presently 103 employees.

RPUC has been entrusted with the management of all the desalination plants at Pointe Coton, Pointe Venus, Songes and Cavern Bouteille. RPUC will start new infrastructural projects as from August 2023 from MIC funds.

ABOUT MIC LOAN
Cabinet agreed that RPUC negotiates with the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC) to invest MUR 1 billion to upgrade the water sector in Rodrigues, especially the desalination plants. RPUC sets out to work a short term plan to increase the water production to 12,000 m3 daily to meet the present demand and ultimately increase it further to 18,000 m3 daily in a few years time to meet the future demands of the island.

RPUC enlisted the Services of Ernest & Young to produce a Business Plan which has been used to negotiate with MIC for a first draw of MUR 540 Million out of the initial MUR 1 Billion. Cabinet agreement for MIC to invest MUR 540 Million in redeemable bonds into RPUC was obtained on 28 July 2023. Signature of Subscription Agreement is forthcoming.

WATER PRODUCTION - DESALINATION
Desalination in Rodrigues has already gained experience for more than 10 years. Since February 2023, the RPUC has been responsible for the managing and operating of the 4 desalination plants. All the desalination plants produce in total 3125 m3 of water per day.

1. Pointe Venus with 695 m3 per day.
2. Pointe Coton with 980 m3 per day.
3. Songes with 840 m3 per day.
4. Cavern Bouteille with 610m3 per day.

Our vision is to achieve a sustainable water supply by 2030.

Our mission is to produce, store, treat and distribute water to all households, public services departments and businesses all around the Island.

• To empower local competence to manage the water sector.
• To sensitize the users on the efficient and environmental use of water.

Our short-term objectives
• Increase global daily water production to 13,000 m3.
• Provide water to every user on a regular basis.
• Improve water quality.

Our long-term goals
• Set up an automated water production and distribution system.
• Achieve a sustainable water supply by 2030.
